THEOLOGIAN IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM
"We endeavor to put theology in dialogue with the world..."
part of the TIR mission statement
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
The Theologian in Residence Program (TIR) is ending its formal affiliation with Blessed John XXIII University Parish. As we part, we do so with deep gratitude for the decades of support the parish has offered the program.
For forty years, we’ve fostered conversations between the University and the Church, helping these two wisdom communities discover how each can help the other pursue truth. We’ve provided Colorado State and Blessed John XXIII professional theologians, who have taught credit courses at CSU, non-credit courses at John XXIII, spoken publically about Catholic theology on and off campus, developed deep relationships with scientists, philosophers, and other scholars, and revived CSU’s religious studies program.
More recently, we’ve brought you distinguished speakers to address topics like interfaith dialogue, the ethics of consumerism and radical technologies, the virtues and challenges of monastic silence in our hyper-stimulated world, and why we need a deeper theology of the Holy Spirit. In each of the past two academic years, more than than 700 people attended TIR events at John XXIII, CSU, and partner faith communities.
Most important are the relationship built over the years. For this, we invite you to join us in extending a personal thank-you to Dr. Joachim Viens, whose tireless and selfless efforts and whose skills as a teacher, scholar, and listener touched thousands of lives during more than thirty-five years of study, CSU teaching, personal conversations, and public lectures.
None of this would have been possible without the support of the pastors, parishioners, students, and staff at John XXIII. Your energy, questions, dollars, attendance and passion for deepening your relationships with Jesus Christ have breathed life into the program and sustained the hard work of theologians and board members.
As we transform into an independent Catholic organization, we are excited for the opportunities the future will bring. Conferences, book discussions, and “meet the author” events are just some of the innovations we’re dreaming about. Please tell us what YOU would like to see in the new TIR.
Whatever transpires, TIR is committed to bringing you the same high-quality programming as always. You can still learn about upcoming events and make gifts via our website, TIRprogram.com, or you can reach us by mail with gifts or correspondence at our new address, P.O. Box 522, Fort Collins, CO 80522. Our phone number is still 970-493-8984. Questions can be directed to contactus@tirprogram.com.
Please Keep Us in Your Prayers—
You Will Be in Ours,
The Board of Directors, TIR
